Privacy policy

Stem Shovel is run by Lightning Jar. This is what we keep and why. It is deliberately short; it will grow as the service does.

What we store

  • Your account: name, email address and a hashed password, plus the accounts you belong to and your role in each.
  • The waitlist: if you join it, your email address, the name you gave, whether you said yes to project updates, when you confirmed, and the page you signed up from. Leaving the list (the link in every waitlist email) removes you from any further email; ask and we delete the entry.
  • What you upload and write: stems, MIDI files, demo recordings, charts, lyrics, notes, comments, song and project details, and the settings around them. Audio files are stored with Vercel Blob; everything else in a Turso database.
  • Bug reports and feature requests you send, with the page you were on and your browser's description of itself, and an email address if you offer one so we can write to you about it.
  • Technical records: server logs kept by our hosting provider (Vercel) for a short time, and a session cookie so you stay signed in. A viewing link you open is remembered in a cookie for thirty days.
  • Error reports: when something breaks, a report goes to Sentry with the error, the page and the browser, and sometimes a recording of the screen with all text and typing masked, so we can fix it. It does not include who you are or what you sent.
  • Visit counts and page speed: Vercel Web Analytics tells us how many people visit which pages and from which countries and browsers, and Vercel Speed Insights how fast pages load. Neither sets a cookie or stores anything that identifies you; one-time links and codes are stripped from what they record.

We use no advertising trackers, and we ask search engines to index only the front page.

Who can see it

Projects and songs are public by address unless a member makes them private. Private material is visible to the account's members and to anyone holding a viewing link a member made. Members of an account can see everything in it. The people who run Stem Shovel can see account and user records and, when needed to support you or keep the service working, the content itself.

Email

We email you to verify your address, reset a password, deliver invitations, and pass on songs that members share with you. Waitlist members get the confirmation link and their invite code. We use Resend to send it. Project-update email (news about Stem Shovel) goes only to people who ticked that box on the waitlist form, and every such email carries a link to turn it off.

Deleting

Delete a song or a project and its files are removed from storage. To close your account or remove your user entirely, ask us and we will do it.
