Downloads
The row under the player offers:
- Download Stems: every stem as uploaded, in one zip.
- Original Stem Mix (MP3): all stems mixed as they are.
- Custom Stem Mix (MP3): the mix as you hear it right now, with your mutes, solos and fader positions.
- Demos: switches the player to the demo recordings; each row's ⋯ menu downloads the MP3 or the original file.
Single stems, and a stem's MIDI file, download from the ⋯ menu on the stem's row.
Attachments
The Attachments panel of the song page, opened by the paperclip button at the top of the song page, beside the chat button (closed until you open it; the badge counts the files), holds every file of the song: charts and lead sheets as PDFs, photos of a handwritten chart, scraps of audio for discussion (a drummer's two beat ideas, a guitarist's lick), text files, MIDI files, anything else, and the scores from the Chart tab, so the whole inventory is in one place. Each is a tile with its kind, title and description; audio plays right on the tile, and clicking a PDF, image or text file opens it in a panel of its own, dragged by its header and resized by its corner, with Download in the header. The tile's ⋯ menu has Open, Download and Open in a new tab (and, for editors, Edit, a Notation switch that shows a PDF or image on the Chart tab's notation view too, Use as demo for audio, which copies it into the player's demos, and Remove); its share button copies the permanent link, a mention for the notes, or starts an email with the link. The link (/f/…) is permanent: it keeps working after the song or project is renamed or made private, so it can go in a band's shared notes. Editors upload one or more files at a time with Upload Attachments (the + in the panel's header, at the foot of the panel, or in the Uploads menu), up to 25 MB for a PDF, 15 MB for an image, 60 MB for audio and 40 files a song; a MusicXML file dropped here goes to the Chart tab. In any note or chart, @ followed by a file's title (paste the copied mention) becomes a link to the file when the note is shown. The Docs panel itself pops out into a floating panel on a wide screen, or minimizes to the Docs button in the row under the player, which brings it back as it was.
Files are named after the project, the song and the song's version, for example badverbs-peaceful-dreams-v0.0.4-mix.mp3, so a mix on someone's desktop still says where it came from.
Sharing
By default every song's address works for anyone, signed in or not, so sending the link is sharing. The share button in the song's header emails the link with a note from you.
A session recording can be shared the same way, on its own: see Sessions.
Private projects and songs
Any member of the account can make a project or a single song private from its settings. A private song opens only for members of the account, for the project's viewers (see Accounts and members) and for people holding a viewing link. Making a project private covers every song in it.
Any member can make viewing links, from the song's share popover or the project's settings: give it a note (who it is for), optionally an expiry and a number of uses, then copy the link. It is the page's own address with a code on the end; whoever opens it once can keep browsing, listening and downloading that song for the rest of their visit. Revoke a link at any time. Sharing a private song by email makes a viewing link for the recipient automatically.
A viewing link lets people listen and read. Editing and commenting still need an account.
Inviting people in
Listening needs no account. Editing, commenting and uploading do. Owners and admins of an account invite members from Account settings, either by email or with an invite code; see Accounts and members.
Documentation downloads
A song's Downloads menu has Song Documentation (PDF): its lyrics, chart and notes as one PDF, with its notation after them: every score and every PDF or image marked as notation. The project page's Attachments & Downloads section has Download All Charts (every score with its PDF and MusicXML, every chart file, and each text chart as text and PDF, in one zip) and Download All Song Documentation (a PDF per song, zipped).
Short links
The links the instruments copy, a chord player set-up, a drum machine beat, a piano preset, are short ones on shvl.me that open the full address, so they paste cleanly into a message. Anyone can make one, signed in or not; links made signed out expire after ninety days, links made signed in do not. Copy link on an attachment or a score copies its permanent link in the short form too; the permanent link stays behind it, so the short one keeps working through renames. Song and project share links already have their own short form.
